Recent Studies Highlight New Applications and Design Factors for UVC Disinfection Lamps
Recent research is expanding the practical application of UVC technology while highlighting the importance of system design and operating conditions.

A study published on October 8, 2026, in Poultry Science and Management evaluated 222 nm far-UVC systems on UK broiler farms. Researchers tested the technology on Wellington boots, poultry anterooms and vestibule areas. The results showed significantly lower bacterial colony counts on treated surfaces compared with untreated control areas. The study suggests that far-UVC could become an additional biosecurity measure for poultry farms, although installation requirements, cost effectiveness and long-term performance require further evaluation.

Another report released by EurekAlert on October 24 examined UV-C lamps installed inside ventilation ducts. The researchers found that airflow can both cool the lamps and reduce the exposure time of airborne particles. In the tested system, a 95W low-pressure mercury lamp maintained a more stable UV-C output than a 60W lamp under different airflow and temperature conditions.

These findings show that UVC disinfection performance depends not only on lamp power or wavelength. Airflow, temperature, lamp arrangement, ballast performance and maintenance conditions must also be considered when designing a reliable UV-C system. For equipment manufacturers and engineering buyers, integrated testing and application-specific solutions will become increasingly important in the development of UVC disinfection products.

Note: UVC radiation can harm skin and eyes. UVC equipment should be installed and operated according to applicable safety requirements, with appropriate shielding and access controls.
