UV germicidal lamps contain mercury, which is vaporized (energized) to disintegrate DNA, RNA, mercury dissolved (activated) 253.7nm/185nm UV wavelengths to destroy bacteria, viruses and their ability to survive and reproduce to achieve disinfection effect
